Fichet, Bourgogne Blanc, 2014, Burgundy, France, 750ml

Essentially a Meursault at a fraction of the price, this Bourgogne far outperforms its modest price point. The nose of this beautifully racy ’14 Bourgogne wafts with juicy orchard and stone fruits, crushed white wildflowers, toasty nuts, honey and citrus zest. Concentrated yet supple and fresh, this wine balances its citrusy acidity with a rich, satisfying mouth-feel. While you can enjoy this bottle now, it has the structure to allow for medium-term aging, and cellaring this bottle will only make it better. Deriving from a clay-and-limestone plot that abuts Meursault-Charmes with vines planted as long ago as 1948, this wine enjoys fermentation with malolactic fermentation in a combination of barrel and tank and it ages for a year in barrel with very little new oak.
